Facebook lets you block or hide a lot of stuff now, makes it easier to deal with religious spam from relatives. My sister had put up an image related to the "God's Not Dead" movie that said something like:
I AM A CHRISTIAN
YOU CAN MOCK ME
YOU CAN HATE ME
BUT YOU CANNOT CHANGE MY MIND
I just shrugged my shoulders and blocked the content, because pointing out that "maybe people mock you because you admit to being close-minded" would have been less satisfying than it might seem at first glance, especially if she really felt that way.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
