.....The planet does not produce Heat on the surface, so it is neither gets warmer or colder. So the average surface temp has nothing to do with what happens here. the average surface temp is controled by our only heat source. When the source puts out more heat it is warmer, and when it puts out less it's colder. Now couple this with our planetary rotation (We do not revolve around the sun like a tire spins) we have an orbit more like a hula hoop. Some summers we are closer to the sun and some winters we are further away.. And then there are the wild summers when the sun puts out very little and we are further away than normal, and the temps never get above freezing.
