Not when the organization itself is fundamentally not pretty alright, and the supposedly pretty alright fellow would neither distance himself from his not pretty alright organization, nor root out the not fundamentally alright parts.

You overvalue the power of the papacy

I don't think he is dedicating all the power he has to the cause of intellectual honesty. Rather he seems to be dedicating a larger proportion to refreshing the sophistry being used to protect his not pretty alright organization.
