If some individual has a heritable trait that allows it to have more offspring than any given individual in the wider population, then the number of individuals that possess this trait will increase with each successive generation (so long as it remains advantageous to possess) - simply because there are more of them with the trait to -have- offspring. That's pretty simple stuff, yeah? I don't know if it meets the bar for fabulous, but I suppose it's fabulously explanatory....so there's always that.
