Atheism, properly understood, actually fosters humility instead of a sense of superiority.

When there is no God to give a damn about you and what you think and do, and it turns out we are just finite specks on a tiny speck floating in space, with the universe totally indifferent to our hopes and fears... that does not tend to puff up the ego and lead to the kind of grandiose superiority complex of some of the religious devout.

I'll go with this view completely. What a scary place it must be for a christian to imagine that their existence is pretty much pointless, which is why they cling to their big daddys flowing robes so tightly.
