I have heard some arguments from creationists that don't sound intelligent. The Young Earth ones have a particularly difficult time making a convincing argument and appear not to value science very well. This is true. I have also heard some pretty intelligent creationists, for example, like those associated with an organization called Reasons to Believe. I think those scientists are good scientists and very intelligent. Creationists is a large category... just like Christians.... or Muslims.
Just for fun, I checked out those Reasons to Believe fellows. Surprise surprise, I found roughly the same statement of faith I find on every creationist site: Scroll down past the "meet our team" link. They presuppose the correctness of the bible before they make their conclusions. That's literally the opposite of what science is for, what scientists do, and in fact, what intelligent people do.
I'm not saying this to imply anything about the intelligence of christians, just to highlight a common creationist tactic that should change your views on this particular group. You can't make a presupposition and still be intellectually honest or scientifically minded; christians might not be less intelligent on average, but they do seem more amenable to intellectually dishonest practices like this one.
