One I like is the seat of Pontius Pilot, whom until recently most, questioned his existence.

Pontius Pilate is a well documented historical figure. We even know his level of corruption from Roman records. Tacitus talks about him in his Annales.

And please don't come up with christian answers as a source. All they mention aren't actually archeological discoveries but historical facts that made it into the bible but are mentioned in other sources as well.
