As for the wrangling over heat and cold, I would note that the definition "absence of heat" is ambiguous. It is cold today, 30 degrees Fahrenheit. But that doesn't mean that heat is absent, or it would be zero degrees Kelvin. If it's just relative, then a 90 degree day would also be "cold" unless we determine some upper bound for "cold," in which case the first definition applies.
Let me know when we're done with the "absence of" word games and then we can get to discussing how Adam and Eve introduced smallpox into the world.
