The suicide rate for atheists is slightly higher than it is for theists. Your statement, 'far higher' is specious.
The suicide rate for the USA (85% theist) is 12.5 per 100,000 people per year.
Sweden, where the atheist population is about 80%, the suicide rate is 12 people per 100,000.
Not to mention, that most of the most secular countries have legal assisted suicide, so some significant percentage of suicides are probably performed because quality of life is just too poor due to illness.
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
