That is a good point. Most theists come to their believes either through childhood teachings that they don't question or through their feelings or needs. If people admitted this, there wouldn't be much reason to debate. Based on everything we know thus far, the atheist stance is the most logical If most theists would admit that their view of god isn't based on logic but their emotional needs for a god, I could respect that position.
The problem is that most theists believe that their faith is logical and they try to convert others using their version of logic. Even if a theist acknowledges that their faith isn't based on logic, they often do still try to find reasons why their set of beliefs make more sense then another set of beliefs.If you ask a Christian why they don't become Hindu or Wiccan, they will often tell you how illogical the other faith is but not admit that their beliefs make as little sense as those two.
I do wish that we had a broader range of theists that visited this site. It seems to be mainly Christian that debate here but I would like to hear from faiths like Hindus who have a different version of the definition of god
