In the second district of Vienna is a pretty sizeable community of jews wearing the same garb as the ones on the plane. It's the traditional jewish district. My mother grew up there too between the wars, but in a secular family.
The reason why I'm mentioning this is, they don't socialise, but I've never seen them evade women either or put up any signs.
I don't know how many Jewish groups do this. Not many is my guess. I've visited, or just walked through Jewish parts of town on my way elsewhere in a number of cities and never felt troubled as an outsider. It's colorful (metaphorical obviously as the garb is black and white) and fun.
It's the demand that other people comply with that kind of sexism that irks me. Though frankly, it makes me think about the is religious indoctrination child abuse thread, and I would say that a number of these groups are abusing their female children by teaching them that they are inferior.
Why is it that religious sexism is okay, but not secular sexism? Again I don't mean in the case of women who voluntarily enter into this kind of nonsense, but children who have no choice.
