1. English: God > good > 1. goods 2. appreciation, positive, not harmfull
2. German: Gott > gut > same meaning as in English but also:
2'. German: "wahr" (true), die Wahrheit > Waren = goods
3. Dutch: God > goed > same meaning as in English (1: goederen) but also:
3'. Dutch: "waar", de "waarheid" (=truth) > waren = goods, material
So in a lot of languages Got comes from "materia" worship of "materia". Very strange...
About language:
1. The first sentence of Genesis = Bereshit, Hebrew for "In the beginning". When i have put that text in my old Word Perfect 5.1 Dos wp word processor (or in the recent X5 of X7 version), my computer told me that the most used word was about: "(God) said" so it is about the question "Why does man talk?"
2. The first sentence in John (yes, the frist of my front names) is: "In the beginning was the Word" (Greek: "logos"). So again it is about the human word, language here, so a bigger problem to talk about God.
3. It took me two years to check if the Qur'an would so have the same 'beginning', and indeed: Shauki Lazhar told me in year two that he did never see this "parallel": In Surat Al-Iqra Mohammed (vzmh) heard 3 times a voice saying "Iqra" = Read! (Mohammed could not read nor write, you know, so he did not know what happened to him and he got terrified).
Now even getting further:
Allah > all (in dutch "alles" = everything) versus God.
Before Christ, with the Jews, the name of God was to "sainted" to be pronounced, YHWH comes from Yod He Waw He and thus in old English: He Who Is What He Is (think of the passus <i am who i am> in difficult English translation.
These are the eldest words known, again with "adam" (seven old Hebrew meanings from wind and ghost over respiration to soul), and <i> think the iota coming from alefa (first letter) became I in old English even... (sounds like AAAA = Alefa = first letter in a lot of al...fabets > ALfa ALso looks like AL).
But the older god was EL not AL, and meant "Lord" or "Herr (German) or Heer (Flemish/Dutch)" and can be combined to the 'other' god that was called "Laat" (think of the story Satanic Versions, first 50 pages I read I had to reread them 3 times to understand them but it contains a lot of beautifull history about christianism and islam versus polytheism) and refered to "furtility" so to.. not the male = Lord but the female version of furtility, also combined with love of course and motherhood.
If you read all religious books this way as i did: withOUT thinking or seeing mystery things about God, but about all our questions to our ORIGIN ("the origin of species" can be read the same way and parallel to the Pentateuch or Qur'an or Gospels!), and you dear to look up the original words in Hebrew (Pentateuch), Greek (John), Arab (Qur'an), you are glad to look at it like... an atheist thus seeing more literature than jews, christians, moslims will see!
Believing in God, you do that deliberately? Worship, do you plan to worship? How long can you worship the same 'thing' without falling asleep after several hours, days? We worshipped the sun, and monotheism started with Tutanchamon (18th Egyptian Dynasty, 1332 BC – 1323 BC), where 'amon' and 'aton' where only the 'sole disk' on the surface that gives planet Earth her warmt and appropriate conditions for life...
If you know about the other God "Set" or "Seth" in Egypt then, and you take the eldest story of Adam and Eve, having two sons (son > sun is no coincidence), one murdered in the war between primary industry (farming) and second industry (sheeping, sheeping wins and got the 'fire respect' from God, (got/god?)), their could be no earthians. Except Eve got other kids and they got indeed: Seth was the third child and so he must ascendant of us all. But Seth was in Egypt the Evil 'God'...
Coincidende? Scientist do not believe in.... (no)... pure coincidence (in Dutch it has two different meanings, therefore i add 'pure').
Do i have to speak clear English when we talk about something that we pronounce as 'God/Gott/God' or in French 'dieux' (di = two).
Then we get to the numerals also via French terms, but this is my 'own' tempory stuff:
0 = nothing (before there was anything)
1 = one thing, can be God can be man, can be Lord, can be woman, can be thing, can be world, can be day and night before they were split in Genesis/Bereshit
2 = one thing + the opposit, some different, or something from the same in plus
3 = live, the two different things create some third thing
...
(the Qur'an and the Bible both mention the 'proof of God existing' in the fact of love between man and wife, indeed 'when you feel a feeling you've never felt before' = falling in love, it is difficult to still behave rationally)
To end with the start:
<I'm getting the feeling that there might be a bit of a language barrier in place here.>
Indeed, when i say 'bike' you see a totally other bike than i do. The same for Monkey, the same for 'earth'. So if we speak of a concept, a thought, a virtual item like Atheist Forums, sorry i mean: like 'God', there is a enormeous, huge language barrier in place here (in all languages)!
Thank you Fat&Faithless (btw you cannot be faithless when i read your answers)
