I grew up watching TOS when it was first aired back in the 1960's. I was like 9, I think. So I've a soft spot for it. Yeah, it is schlocky and campy as hell. But it also broke new ground for network TV. TNG is better quality all around, but then Patrick Stewart is a Shakespearean actor, not a semi-talented TV actor like William Shatner. Plus they got a much bigger budget to work with as well as by then you had far superior FX technology going for you. Roddenberry was lucky to get it on at all, and then every season he had to fight for it all over again.
