Theists believe at least one god exists. Atheists don't. Another two terms to keep in mind are gnostic, and agnostic. Gnostic means you're certain about something, and an agnostic means you aren't. You can be a gnostic or agnostic theist. You can be a gnostic, or agnostic, atheist.
Another thing to note is that Everyone is an atheist. Some just make one or more exceptions. You probably don't believe that other gods exist, but at some point people really did worship the greek pantheon, and other gods. The difference between you and I is that I don't make an exception for Allah.
