It would take some getting used to. It would be quite an experience to just squat over a hole... Plus, the acrobatics required in order to wipe correctly...
You more often find holes with a bucket and ladle or a hose.
It doesn't take long to get used to when you've just been for the tenth time in a half hour. :-)
Not much fun on a boat or train.
After much travel through Asia I just stay at Chinese establishments now if I can.
Western toilets with plenty of dunny paper and privacy and clean and not broken. :-)
