You think the Universe is created and controlled by a mind because you are cognizant of your ability to create and control things after your mind has determined that it should be so.

But how many times does nature have to demonstrate that she does not operate according to our naive assumptions---based solely on childish intuitions---before we quit making them?

Very silly comment.
When you are dealing with yourself it only need one person to decide something.
You can decide to kill yourself or you can decide to improve your life or anything else that relate to your persona but when you are dealing with external entity then one person is not enough to decide what to do.
You got to take in consideration external factors.
You may not like rain or snow but without rain or snow everything will die so very often we can not understand why this or that happen and for what reason.
That doesn't mean that there is ALWAYS a reason for this or that to happen.
You may claim that i may not understand how the nature works but that is solely your opinion.
I do not understand everything of course but i do understand that the analogy between me thinking that a body without a mind can not work and the physical world without a supreme mind to run it can not work make a lot of sense.
So far none have come up with evidence that matter can run herself and you can be sure that nobody ever will so it is natural that a controlling mind is there to make sure that evolution is possible.

Yes, the universe can exist without a mind. Like a rock can exist without anyone observing it.

So, you got the evidence that God is not there to observe the rock and to mantain this external projection in his mind?
