Sooo... WTF used to happen after the rain, before the flood? Did the sunlight not split into bands when passing through tiny prism-like drops of water? Seems like a lot of effort to prevent that from happening every time precipitation occured anywhere on Earth, until humans' inevitable f***-up, requiring genocide followed by a faintly romantic gesture. Or did light, or water (and therefore physics, plant biology and all sorts of other things) work differently back then?
