The difference between flaming/inciting a deliberate negative response and simply using emotive language should be painfully obvious IMO.
If someone's saying something so batshit stupid that it doesn't even need explaining why, to me, it's much more of a purposeful response if someone just calls it out for the stupidity it is and calls the guy a stupid twat. The guy responding is probably going to whine like a bitch but the general audience at least get a laugh.
Also, just because you do throw out the occasional insult, doesn't mean those insults are always just for the person you're insulting. Again, it helps accentuate points. A lot of the times, an opposing position doesn't always deserve respect either. I liken it to Ken Ham versus Bill Nye. Sure Bill spent all day using facts and shit, and he was really respectful, blah blah blah, but when you're talking to someone so dense, sometimes it's better to just call the guy a dumbass and be done with it.
