Sen Graham (R Closet) should study the life of George Washington. The closest America has ever come to a military coup (which is what he's really talking about) was right after the Revolutionary War when Congress was unable to pay the military soldiers for services already rendered. The military was ready to march on Philadelphia, the then capital, and Washington stepped in an stopped it with pretty much the force of his personality. He later lobbied the Congress to pay its debts to its soldiers but worked within the system to do so.
Say what you will about Washington, he did two things that got America off to a solid beginning as a democratic state. First, he effectively established the military as subject the civilian government, a crucial component to a democratic state, and second, he's the only man I know of to ever occupy a political office and restrain the powers of that office.
Graham and other members of the GOP who can barely conceal their passionate desires for a dictatorship would do well to actually study what our founders really believed and wrote. Ah, never mind, like the word "freedom" they just want to use the brand for marketing purposes.
