I tried to test my belief in any of the OP points.
Closest I could come is a tentative yes to "Islam is seen as a political ideology, used for political or military advantage." because of the clear military and political aims of ISIL while it claims to be Islamic. But most Moslems don't fall into this bucket.
This is a problem of equivocation where Islam is a single word used to self describe multiple groups. I can't use the same word for the Moslems who use fascist and barbaric tactics to oppress and to gain political or military advantage from the Moslems who do not use fascist and barbaric tactics to oppress and to gain political or military advantage.
Is there a new word we can use for the latter? Both groups seem to want to lay claim to being the true followers of Islam.
