Phobias are fears, not hatreds!
Oh, I see what you did here... Well, to be honest homophobia is also not an accurate word as well because it usually means hatred (not fear) of homosexuals (even though some people may be afraid of gays).
Still, I am afraid of Islamic terrorism. Sometimes when I'm on a train ride I wonder if it's going to blow. I sometimes mentally conceive my testament/will just in case I die.
Yeah, homophobe is another one. Still, at least people who are afraid of gays are not being accused of being afraid of an idea, and there are people who are genuinely afraid of gays.
To say you're afraid of Islamic terrorism isn't bigotry or even a phobia (irrational fear) but simply rational. To be afraid of an idea would be a phobia, but since the idea (Islam) and those who seek to do harm in it's name (terrorists) can be separated I see no reason to accept a label which is completely wrong.
Add to that, I don't hate Islam in any way, or even the terrorists on any personal level (I hate what they stand for, what they do and the methods that they use). I cannot hate what I do not know.
No, I do not consider myself an Islamophobe in any sense, even though I find the beliefs repugnant as I do the people who carry out atrocities in the name of said beliefs.
