I think you need to learn the definition of 'rebelling'...and 'technically'. It would be 'rebelling' if he turned away from religion specifically to go against his parents. If he turned away from religion after investigation and self reflection (which appears to be the case), it's not 'rebelling', it's just a change of belief.
