CPS is a joke. Courts and judges are a joke.
My fiancee and I found out back in October that his ex-wife hit the oldest with a kitchen utensil over 15 times on the butt for bringing home a D on his report card. From what the oldest said, she was also making them hold cinnamon in their mouths for FIVE minutes. We called the police, made a report at 1am because that's when the oldest told us he was afraid to go back to his mom's house. The officer felt there was sufficient evidence for CPS to investigate and he called ChildLine. CPS was supposed to send a Forensic Interviewer to our home to interview the boys. They never did. In the month we had the children, not once were we ever contacted by CPS and this wasn't the first time CPS had been called on the boys' mother. This was the third time.
Went to the courthouse on a Sunday morning to get a PFA. We were granted an emergency PFA (Protection From Abuse) where their mother was not allowed any contact with the children. Went to another hearing to get the PFA extended, it was postponed. Went again, the judge ran out of time due to other hearings. Went a third time, it got continued to the following week.
The boys were pulled out of school a total of four times all for court appearances. My fiancee lost four days worth of work and was subsequently fired from his job for having to take so many days off in such a short amount of time.
We had the boys a total of one month. In that time, behavior improved, medication was not missed, the boys felt safer and were happy.
The judge hearing the case told my fiancee that while she felt the boys' testimony was very credible and that their mother most certainly abused them, she did not think that a PFA hearing was the proper venue for my fiancee to get custody of his children. WHAT? Yeah... instead of doing what was in the best interests of the boys, the stupid judge returned them to their abuser. Needless to say, the behavior problems started back up, medication is constantly missed and now the oldest one has been caught stealing money.
This is how a failed system works boys and girls.
