Men's standards of beauty around the world

RE: Men's standards of beauty around the world
Quote:Looks are important to an extent, I'm not gonna beat around the bush and be all PC and say "oh no, they don't matter!". It's only when you start picking apart people's looks and only shooting for absolutely beautiful people that it becomes shallow.
I agree, I think looks are important to anyone - Even asexual people can appreciate beauty and have beauty standards (but not sexual ones) - What I think is wrong is to promote unrealistic standards. Many people, myself included, have some weird standards - I like women's feet, so on principle I wouldn't be keen on dating someone with ugly feet; call me a fascist if you want. I usually try to be open to different kinds of beauty - My girlfriend of 2.5 years is white and gipsy and she is slim, but my crush between 16-17 years old was pale with green eyes and chubby, I've felt attracted to different women, my standards are actually pretty humble, but they exist

Personally, I think women in particular don't have much to gain with the fashion and beauty industry that in practice exploits their weakness with unrealistic standards - Natural non photoshoped beauty is great
Quote:But I think you have to be more realistic in your expectations (both for yourself and potential dates). simply having good hygiene, fashions, and being a reasonably healthy weight (as well as confidence) will be sufficient to get people attracted to you. My body is put to shame by all these models, yet I don't struggle to get guys.
Yes, I don't consider myself overly pretty and I have a little extra fat (though it's not noticeable unless I'm shirtless) but I try to be myself and it has worked - For dating I actually care most of all about similar interests. For example, a woman who doesn't like to talk about politics is not of my interest, even if she is drop dead gorgeous.

I find some attractiveness on all bodies and facial features, it just depends on the person. Some features are less attractive, but I find beauty on different bodies and skin tones. I've felt attracted to athletic women, slim elegant women, chubbier women and short/tall women. As long as there's no extreme (like too fat or too skinny) it's ok

What I don't like is to be called a racist because most of my crushes were white, specially considering that I find arabic and indian traits very pretty (and my girlfriend is part gipsy - Gipsies are Indian descendants) and asian ones as well.
Quote:I also think the people who bitch about "oh I'm ugly, and everyone is so shallow!" are secretly shallow themselves. No, not everyone is shallow, it's just that the hot guys you want to be hot enough to bang are shallow, then when a genuinely nice boy-next-door type comes along it's "ugh not him". You're no better.

Indeed, but my experience tells me it's a teen problem - After hitting my 20's I noticed people start taking dates seriously and there's no such problems.

To some extent I think western men are becoming shallow because of porn and model beauty - I notice a lot of men saying that skinny women are not real women because they don't have Beyonce like curves, and athletic women aren't real women because it's not feminine. I think that is harmful
Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you
