And yet, figuring things out for ourselves is what we humans are left to do. That's what the men who wrote our holy books did. If they'd had divine help from a single god, there would only be a single book.
There might be multiple books for people with very different backgrounds who conceptualize the world in different ways. There would certainly be a common thread amongst those books though. There sure as hell wouldn't be anything in any of those books that those diverse peoples might interpret as an edict from on high to wage war and atrocities on those who are different from themselves. A human author might not be able to avoid such mistakes but a God...
I cannot speak knowledgeably about any holy books other than those of the three Abrahamic religions. I know those books explicitly command murder and violence. But other religions? Since atheism is not a religion, it would be hard to codify dogma that all atheists must abide by. Kinda like putting together a flock of eagles. That's why I say thosewho would try to do that will most likely be trying to control people through a unified atheism.
The god who allows children to be raped out of respect for the free will choice of the rapist, but punishes gay men for engaging in mutually consensual sex couldn't possibly be responsible for an intelligently designed universe.
I may defend your right to free speech, but i won't help you pass out flyers.
Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.
