It's natural human response to take care of others who are hurt.
In those societies, it was about survival of the fittest. If you couldn't provide for yourself or have someone care enough about you to provide for your well-being, then too bad.
It's a natural human response to care about them, but it's not a natural response to actually do something about it. That still applies in our current society.
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.
