Even if they had the knowledge, they were designed to be incredibly easily swayed.
Did God not factor the snake into his plan? Why allow a creature he knew could turn them against him? Or did the snake outwit God?
(It's a snake, not satan, that is a retcon. Nowhere does it say it is satan.)
It seems like he wants them to fail so he can justify getting mad at them. Maybe this was like the fiftieth time he had run this scenario and every time he screws it up one way or the other. He finally snaps and takes it out on his hapless creations.
Ah, it's so much fun
It's a fun story to play with.
