I would have to agree with ya'll on the legaalizing for the protection of the girls.
@Shelly , I agree that some people really can't hold common jobs and it is quite unfortunate that they have to reduce themselves to prostitution. As long as they get enjoyment out of it or some kind of gradification out of it then I am in support of them doing their job. Here where I live in some parts of the city the working girls are allowed only to go to certain parts of the city because of tourism being in the main part of the city. I work for a hotel here in the city but that still doesn't keep the prostitutes out. I had a phone call from a guest that was ordering while getting it on with a girl. I would think some of the working girls feel they are being used to a extended degree.
@padraic, I am sorry for the unfortunate experience in singapore. Here in the next city from where I live prostitution is actually a large income for the city. There is maybe a few gas stations and grocery store and a casino but the main industry is to go down the different dirt roads to the trailer park or the a certain house with a madam of your choice. There is several of them within the city (a hour from where I live). Anyways they are checked regularly (once a week) and they have to carry a card. I feel like it would benefit them to become unionzed that way they have some kind of support.

"History, I believe, furnishes no example of a priest-ridden people maintaining a free civil government. This marks the lowest grade of ignorance of which their civil as well as religious leaders will always avail themselves for their own purposes" Letter to von Humboldt, 1813
