My advice: find whatever it is you really do want to do, then research the ever-loving shit out of it, and take the necessary risks to see it through to a successful end. I realize that sounds like cheesy formulaic rah-rah bullshit, but it's the step I will be taking in a couple of months (well, the research part I've been busy with for more than a year, but the risk-taking part is coming up). Go for it, believe that you have what it takes to succeed (pro tip: you do!), and force life to cough up the good things you deserve.
I'm going to be a huge success in the next ten years and I'm around eight or nine years older than you, so you've got a head start!
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
