I was thinking the same thing. This is a god that is supposed to see the future. The commandment to hate your family is one that could very easily be misinterpreted or misused by cult leaders. Why say something if you know that it might cause confusion?
I also want to know how Lek knows that Jesus was using hyperbole? It doesn't really make sense as a hyperbolic statement anyway. If a said, Lek, you need to hate your family and listen to me, you would be justified in telling me to go away. I couldn't claim that I was speaking in exaggerations to make a point because that wouldn't make sense in that context.
The bible contradicts itself. That is why there are so many Christian denominations who are certain that they are the 'true' Christians. God is omniscient, he could have made certain that his words were clear and easy to understand.
