RE: I received this email
If you asked my mother, she'd say it was because the Jews have always put forth learning/studying/nerdiness as a top priority. If you ask me I'd say...all those people probably had a Jewish mother and have you ever seen how they *nag*? Nothing's ever good enough! "So you're a scientist, what have you accomplished lately?" "So what, you won a prize? You better have won a prize after all those months and never calling me!"

Okay, I'm joking. A tad. There are a lot of stereotypes about Jews that are completely false, but the ones about Jewish mothers are usually absolutely true.

No, seriously though, think about it from a historical perspective: Jews came around first, have always been looked at sideways by other religions/nations, have had a couple days in the sun and their own killing sprees, and a lengthy history pre-and-post-formation-of-Christianity to be persecuted, maligned, and exterminated and now are mostly mellow. Christians are having their day in the sun still, went on several killing sprees, even of their own people, and now we're surprised that Muslims are doing it too?

It's also unfair to compare the three religions - Jews don't proselytize. If you don't want to be a Jew...don't be a Jew...Jews just happen to think their way of life is elite and uber special in god's eyes and you oughta want in on it. I haven't met a brand of Christianity yet that hasn't got its own form of advertisement, or its own freaks who feel the need to aggressively spread the word of Jesus. I'll have to have someone clear up the Muslim belief in that on the less extreme end.

There's a lot of culpability on the Jewish side of the middle east that most Americans do not hear - after all, Israel can do no wrong in our eyes, apparently. Believe me, there are as many nuts mixed in that bag as the rest of the world. My personal opinion is that the need to cling to wreckage of a place you once called home/holy is a sign of some sort of psychosis - if your god was great and all-knowing, he'd forgive you getting the hell out of a place where children were being killed and lives destroyed. Am I putting all the blame on the Jewish presence? No, but they stay there to "defend the homeland", exacerbating the situation, and they pass the idea of it on to Jews over here too. It was a common Sunday School topic. Some use the Holocaust as a reason the Jews needed a state of their own (conveniently in the middle of a place full of people who hate them - I could make a shit-ton of stereotype jokes there too) - I say "there already was a place you could have come to where you could worship as you pleased, and it's conveniently bordered by oceans, not hostile nations."

Give regular, sane, run-of-the-mill muslims a chance to get out of those countries and establish peaceful footholds elsewhere (and they will, despite the best efforts of some of the TEA party fucks in this country and the racists in others), they'll prove every bit as normal, useful, and intelligent in society as other religions can be. E-mails like that are the most nefarious kind I've seen, preying on people's logic. It sounds so *reasonable* as compared to something saying the same thing that could be purely spiteful. How could anything so reasonable sounding not be okay to believe? (Rhetorical). Bleh.
