Oh well, I can't really contribute much to the heavy metal discussion. The closest thing to heavy metal I listen to are folkish/pagan metal things or heavy metal leaning trash. For me it's mostly thrash and death in all its incarnations. I do like the earlier Black Sabbath with Ozzy though, I think he has a very recognizable sound which I really like.
I saw Saxon live a few times, they are cool live nowadays, although I think the production of their new album sounds way too tame, as if they still had the same producers as in 1980. If they'd transport the same feeling they have on stage on the album, I might even buy it.
