I think, Pandæmonium, your third and fourth paragraphs kind of prove his point. Informing a user about something is fine. Condemning him thereafter, from a position of power, that is, is not.

Even I can see how he's being obnoxious, what with the bible references and all, but that's no excuse for mistreating a user.

I'm not being drawn into a conversation about this with someone who only joined the other day and has no experience about how we as staff make decisions, let alone about how previous users who have been subject to staff action have been 'treated'. If you've got a formal complaint make it through the appropriate channels. I read between the lines here and get the impression you are saying things for the sake of saying things, but needless to say, no user has been mistreated in the above.
