Morality doesn't depend on religion - You can be moral and non-religious, and you can be moral and religious - You can be immoral and religions, and immoral and non-religious. I don't see the world as composed by good and evil people, but people who do good and bad, and some do more good and some do more bad. It's that simple. There isn't even a single definition on what constitutes good and evil because there's gray areas and interesting philosophical questions.
In theory, one could easily argue that atheists can be good but don't need to be since there's no ultimate reward or punishment (aside from the fact it is illegal and gets you jailtime, but that's not a good reason right?) but religionists needn't either because all they gotta do is to believe and they'll get into heaven - Heck, sometimes you can get into heaven after doing horrible things.
