There are already some pretty good examples of how it 'works out'.
Most of the countries with the highest percentage of atheists in their population, have: among the lowest crime rates, poverty rates, highest education levels, lowest infant mortality, maximum freedoms, and more. They are also among the happiest countries in the world.
A person in Denmark has a much better chance for real upward mobility than someone in the US.
The USA has a murder rate of 4.88 per 100,000. Sweden is 1.15 per 100,000. The US is about 85% Christian, Sweden is about 80% atheist. Norway's murder rate is about .56 per 100,000. They are about 70% atheist. Netherlands murder rate is about .71 per 100K. They are about 44% atheist. Hell, even Vietnam, at 80% atheist, has a murder rate of 1.52 per 100K.
The top 10 happiest countries in the world, all have a substantially higher percentage of atheist, than the USA for example.
So, the experiment has already been done. We win!
You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
