I referenced welk in a thing...and one of my deeply held peers asked me who lawrence welk was. Just flat never heard of it. That's sacriligous, right?
My mother watches the Lawrence Welk Show every weekend still. I've seen the same episodes since the 70s. It's like a time warp, and not an entirely pleasant one. Yes, some of the performers are talented, but the painted-on smiles on almost all-white faces (they had one black song-and-dance guy) just screams 'fake'.
