The brain also goes wrong a lot of the time as well. hallucinogens could explain seeing something that isn't there. Also, quite a few mental disorders can explain this
This wasn't a vague sighting though, she very clearly saw him, there was not question about it, it didn't appear in some piece of furniture or something, he was simply standing there, plainly for the eye to see.
