Hey listen, you don't have to concentrate on fusion. Yes fusion would be great, but unless there is basically some sort of revolution to bring it on, we won't see it so soon.
One other option is traveling-wave reactor (TWR). It is in theory a small nuclear device that can go on for 30 years on nuclear waste. Maybe people should push for that? Because it seems it would be very safe to use, non-polluting and it could perhaps very quickly replace all the (polluting) power sources we have.
It also seems to be around the corner and easy to develop. Because every time you hear plans for drilling on Europa, or diving on Europa or driving on Titan or even peeps living on Mars or any other complicated deep space mission you can be sure they're talking about developing TWR. So it's doable if they plan missions with it. Is it not?
But why is it not here? Is it that perhaps that oil companies are afraid of it? If you ask me that's the main reason we don't see drilling on Europa, because there is a fear people on Earth would start to use it as well and burning oil would drop.
But if that's the case why aren't entrepreneurs working on it? Like Musk? Why doesn't he develop it? Maybe it's too expensive? Maybe nobody in private sector wants /doesn't know how to handle nuclear waste in that sort of manner.

teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. - Sam Harris, "Letter To A Christian Nation"
