Some are very hard, some are quite easy and some of that depends on how familiar you are with the answer. The one posed by Jesster was relatively easy for me because I spend soooooo much time reading and writing. Once I plugged X into the fist line as the 24th letter of the alphabet, the rest just fell into place.
A good riddle is far more than just a joke. Many aren't even funny, or at least not intentionally. What they are, are logic puzzles. A good riddle always has a logical answer, sometimes more than one, especially for old riddles that use words whose meanings have shifted over time. I think they're one of the best tools ever for learning and sharpening logic skills.
