A vet I used for one of my old guys offered a couple of free acupuncture 'treatments' when she started down the road of Chinese medicine and herbs. He was 12 years old and needed some help getting up. He had two treatments and I saw no difference. I frequently had to lift his butt up for him. After the second treatment I found one of the pins that they left in him when I got him home. That was the end of that. I switched vets.
Years ago we started making a fuss over one of our house cats as he aged and seemed to be getting more stiff when he got up from nap time. Turns out we were inadvertently training the cat to milk the infirmity angle for more attention.
Didn't take too long and the cat is dragging it's lower half around as though it's paralyzed from the chest area down. I took the cat to the vet to have him euth'd and upon putting him on the exam table, he jumped down and ran down the hallway at 30 miles per hour.
The vet looked at me and said. "I don't think he's paralyzed".
We ignored the cat's little decrepitude act after that and he rapidly improved in his mobility.
He almost got to go to kitty heaven for that . . .
That sounds like a cat, alright. I'm sometimes in awe of the crap our cats pull on us. They are incredible manipulators.
