That's why there are rules and more and more rules all the time to attempt to prevent injuries and to try to curtail cheating.

How can you say both...'of course it is not the same sport...' and 'I do not see any difference in any sport..."?  

Everything isn't black or white in the real world Brian even though it is in your world.

If it is not cheating to block someone when you are at the front of the pack, why should it be called cheating if you are blocking someone trying to lap you?

To me this is no different than a cornerback in the NFL stuck to the receiver like glue without touching them, and manages to block the pass. 

It only  becomes cheating to me when you deliberately do something severely unsafe that can cause an accident, in the same way a cornerback cant hit the receiver before the ball reaches him and the cornerback isn't looking at the ball when he hits the receiver.

Again, in the last laps of the race, the front runners were neck and neck, and all inches away from each other, trying to pass each other and also trying to block each other. Professional auto racing has always had drivers inches away from each other.  If there is no contact between cars then I see no reason to call it cheating no matter if you are in the front of the pack or back of the pack.

And of course it isn't black and white. It still depends, just like a replay in the NFL, sometimes things happen so fast only a slo mo replay can tell you if something was intentional or unintentional. I am just saying blocking doesn't mean contact in racing, it just means staying in front of someone so they cant pass you.

I think automobile racing is one of those sports that could be greatly improved with a few simple changes:

-Make the racetracks square instead of oval.

-Require each driver to take three shots of whiskey 30 minutes before the race begins (any driver who tests negative for blood alcohol at the end of the race is to be disqualified).

-Pop-up obstacles on the track.

When the race starts and people are in the front of the pack, they are jockeying for track position and have a legitimate chance of winning the race if they can take the lead and keep it.  That's why they block those who are trying to get around them.

If you have been lapped then you don't have a chance of winning a race and blocking someone who is on the lead lap is an asshole move that is likely to cause a wreck and pileup involving racers who actually have a chance to win or place.  Blocking a lead car at that point isn't going to gain the driver doing the blocking any advantage toward the goal of winning.  

And stop with the 'but football rules' crap.  Football rules have nothing to do with racing.  Nothing, nada, nil.
