Again, if it is within the rules of professional racing for a first place driver to prevent the 2nd place driver behind them from passing, I don't see why it should be against the rules for the driver in last place to prevent someone from lapping them.
If it does not violate safety rules, then position should not matter.
That's the larger point which I didn't address. But you analogy isn't getting any better, since you're comparing football playoffs with a one-off auto race.

Hate to burst your bubble, but auto racing isn't a "one off" deal. It is a point based system, just like the NFL has rules to get a team into the playoffs. That is why auto racing is called a "series".
