Actually, there are a couple of other reasons (at least according to Anonymous). Trump's staff strongly urges him to go to these kinds of events where people will cheer him, because:
1. When he's out of the White House, much more actual work gets done.
2. His ego is so dangerously fragile that the cheers buck him up and (for a few days, at least) he's easier to deal with.
This strategy has been working less well lately.
