Mathematics is the Queen of Science. You don't understand it, it's not Mathematic's problem. You have to beat your head on it until you get it. As has been said, "There is no royal road to mathematics". Speaking from personal experience, mathematics made my career in engineering and physics. Most of what I did depended on mathematics, every step of the way...complex double precision Fourier Series expansion, using everything including a CRAY Y-MP. NB: I won't explain what I did to anyone, they have to take the journey themselves.
