"A total of 48 pigs were filmed, though only 46 of them made it to the screen."
Hmm, I'd assume if there was one Babe he'd be sent to a farm to live out his days, not eaten.
But 48 Babes?
Piglets don't stay as small and cute as Babe for very long. According to IMDb, the movie was filmed from Apr 7, 1994 - Jul 28, 1994. That's 113 days. In that time, a newborn piglet can grow from 2-3 lbs to comparable in size to Farmer Hoggett.
Indeed! They grow quickly. Grandpa used to put the sows outside of the farrowing building so my cousin and I could play with the baby pigs. They may be little but damn are they loud! And mama would hear them and throw herself against the side of the building in an attempt to get in. People talk about how protective mama bears are - well, mama pigs aren't exactly to be toyed with either.
