DeForest Kelley, who played Dr. Bones McCoy, first uttered the catch phrase “He is dead, Captain” not to William shatner on Star Trek, but to Gregory Peck on Man in the Gray Flannel Suit.
Kelley joked after Star Trek that his biggest fear is his tomb stone would say “he is dead, Jim”. And lo and behold, after his death, his orbituary in Newsweek magazine began with “He is dead, Jim……”
