Overpopulation

RE: Overpopulation

Quote:Hardly.
Then why are our reservoirs drying out?

Quote:I hear it also falls out of the sky.
Yes rainful replenishes reservoirs, but we take too much from reservoirs. Plus a warmer climate reduces rainfall.

Quote: remove animal farms,
Your source of meat and milk disappears.

Quote:insert hydroponics farms (little-no water wasted),
Highly expensive as it takes a lot of energy, plus it won't be enough.

Quote: efficient 'green' factories that don't pollute the water
That's a step in the right direction but doesn't solve the problem.

Quote:(i don't see how a machine could otherwise 'waste' it), and make every home's water usage efficient.
A good step in the right direction.

Quote: We can't exactly keep everyone from sweating
Never suggested that.

,
Quote: but we certainly can keep recycling their urine and shit.
Many countries have already engaged in recycling waste. A good step.

Quote:Subterrenian -> space. Hydroponics -> water.
One requires a lot of resources, advance technology and time. They both are impractical and hugely expensive.

Quote:Got some space in the north. Lots of it. And a whole continent down south. Australia is pretty empty of people across most of it. And then there's always underground and on the ocean floor/surface of the ocean.
You're only delaying the problem. That tactic has already been used. It's still in use. We need a solution not a delay.

Quote:I'm not following you on the space running out just yet.
Space won't matter, water is the first to run out. Farms do however take huge amounts of space and a lot of water.

Quote:And since we're so busy running out of water: why not make more?
Converting sea water is hugely expensive and only delays the problem. It doesn't solve it.

Quote:Or find more.
Many colostral bodies contain much water. Don't know how to collect it yet. But even if we did, it would cost trillions.

Quote:And when scientists figure out how to make saltwater drinkable... I hope to all fucking hell you doomsayers shut up.[/b]
We can convert salt water to fresh, but it's extremely expensive. It also doesn't solve the problem. Also doomsayers as you call them, not all are wrong. Religious wackos, I'd ignore and laugh at any day. They assert without evidence. Naturalists on the other hand, tend to have first hand experience with decades of research with the backing of scientists. Some warnings must be heeded.

Quote:Adapt.
How can we adapt without water? Try this, go a whole week without water and let me know how well you adapted to it. Starving Africans go through it all the time. They don't live for very long.

Quote:'When they run out': they aren't going to run out.
I wish you were right. But our reservoirs say different.

Quote:Need is a very strong word. Anyway: adapt.
Like I said, life depends on water. Without it, it dies.

Quote:Get over it: life dies. Often horribly.
Doesn't have to for us. But being blind to the ever growing problem will be our undoing.

Quote:Don't kid yourself: people will never learn.
Then we are forced to repeat our mistakes.

Quote:Or better, if you happen to live in alaska, russia, antarctica, or canada.
No, that's a bad thing. Planet warms up, ice caps melt, ocean rises, less land, less space...you get the picture.

Quote:I have no problems, hakuna matata Heart Can't stand that some people see that we adapt? Okay? Heart
Somethings we cannot adapt to. We have our limitations.

The solution to the problem is not finding or producing more water, it's controlling our population. We don't have to face water shortages. We will if we don't do something now.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence - Carl Sagan

Mankind's intelligence walks hand in hand with it's stupidity.

Being an atheist says nothing about your overall intelligence, it just means you don't believe in god. Atheists can be as bright as any scientist and as stupid as any creationist.

You never really know just how stupid someone is, until you've argued with them.
