Capitalism didn't fail. It's working perfectly as intended.
The people that are supposed to protect the majority of people against the abusive capitalists have failed because they were bought by the abusing capitalists. It's the national equivelent of the AIDS virus.
EDIT: I don't think Cenk believe it's a failure of capitalism so much as a failure of our government. He seems thoroughly railed against the US goverment for treating the oligarchs like employers and doing what they tell them to do while stiffing the rest of us, but I don't know of a single instance in which he's blamed the econimic system.
If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools and next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session you may ban books and the newspapers...
Ignorance and fanaticism are ever busy and need feeding. Always feeding and gloating for more. Today it is the public school teachers; tomorrow the private. The next day the preachers and the lecturers, the magazines, the books, the newspapers. After a while, Your Honor, it is the setting of man against man and creed against creed until with flying banners and beating drums we are marching backward to the glorious ages of the sixteenth centry when bigots lighted fagots to burn the men who dared to bring any intelligence and enlightenment and culture to the human mind. ~Clarence Darrow, at the Scopes Monkey Trial, 1925
Politics is supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. ~Ronald Reagan

Doesn't this actually represent success from the viewpoint of the capitalists?

The success of these assholes that are ripping off America can be answered with a question that every one of these assholes always asks him or herself;
"Did I make any money off of [Whatever]?"
If the answer is "yes", then it's always a success, no matter what you have to do to acheive that result.

America does promote the maximizing of personal gain from the lowest to the highest, it's everyone for himself.

Oh please. Don't blame America for greed.
That's been a human pasttime since before humans were homo-sapiens.

I don't want to, but I can't stop myself.
It's just integrated into your system, the ever-consumption cycle. To keep it, you need more. I don't know but people don't seem to be ever content with their lives in the USA, and you have a holiday called "thanksgiving". When was really the last time you gave thanks for anything at all?
I'm no fan of unjust taxes, but the people in America seem to have a real antipathy for taxes, I know no one wants to give a portion of their income away..But no one ever stops and thinks, "What can I do for my country and my countrymen" but people rather stop and think, "what can I do to buy myself a wii".
Maybe I'm exaggerating, but this is the general attitude I saw in Americans throughout the course of the years(on the web though, it might not be reliable, but these are the impressions that I got).

Yeah..i guess if you are one of those 400 most wealthy people then capitalism works great for you..you dont have to do shit while everyone else works to make you rich.
Surely capitalism must be defended with the lives of the poor and middle class...we should draft them into the military while the top 400 sells bullets to us and our enemies.
What else has been more successful than capitalism
