Skeptics I no longer have any respect for.

Not just that, Void, but they're bordering on being thought-police in a lot of their diatribes.

In the case of Gelatogate, for instance, I don't give a shit what your religious affiliation is or lack thereof - the man has a right to feel offended by something he didn't like. It's how he acts upon his offended feelings that means something, and this guy apologized - profusely - for making a mistake. Mistakes, btw, are only human and last time I checked that's what both PZ and RW are. So I guess it makes sense for them not to accept someone else apology for making one when they consider themselves incapable of making a mistake.

It's only a 'mistake' in that he regretted the decision because it had a negative impact on some other values he held - Had it been the case that his distaste for skeptics outweighed his values to be liked and/or to sell more products (or whatever other considerations made him change his mind) then he would have persisted with the sign and would have been doing no wrong by it, after all this was his property and it's fully in his rights to determine the use of the property including who is allowed on the premises, irrespective of what other people may think of it.

So even if he hadn't had conflicting values that eventually overturned his initial decision, leading to him later apologising (likely seeking to recover some lost value in the form of customers or social standing) he'd be doing nothing 'wrong', he'd just appear to be a 'bigot' to a certain subset of the population and if that's the price he's willing to pay for excluding this subset then that's his decision to freely make.

It's not even that he disliked skeptics, he was just under the impression that they were the type of skeptics that debunk alien UFO landings and such things, it never occurred to him that religion falls under that same scrutiny.

It was the blasphemy that upset him. I'm not arguing the technicality of it being his private business, nor the fact that it's bigoted. Of course it's ridiculous in a moral sense for him to act that way just because he disagrees, but it's also more than a bit stupid for people to NOT understand that he would be offended by what he saw at the conference when those are his deeply held beliefs. I don't care what your judgment of his beliefs are - he should be accorded the same respect that ANYONE who says "Okay, I believe something different, I acted badly but changed it and apologized," should be. Telling him he HAS to think something different, or crucifying him for his beliefs, makes PZ no different from the Christians who try to vilify us for our lack of it, in my opinion.

The ice cream guy was offended, in the heat of the moment he lashed out, then he regretted it and took the sign down again. It still did not make what he did right, but understandable. He has since apologized and some skeptics and atheists have accepted his apology. PZ hasn't, which is his good right, but instead started lashing out himself to those that did accept the ice cream guy's apology which I think is just messed up.

In her article on reddit, Rebecca Watson commented on how she ignored all the subreddits that "make her angry", and included the "Men's Rights" subreddit in her list.

She has the gall to call men the sexist ones, when she can freely admit that "Men's Rights" make her angry???

I guess she's perfectly fine with custody battles that leave the father with virtually no access to his children.

I guess she's perfectly fine with circumcision, a form of genital mutilation often forced upon young males by their parents.

I guess she's perfectly fine when male partners are on the receiving end of household abuse, and the law does nothing.

Nobody's rights should make a person angry. The violation of those rights should, but Rebecca only seems to care about her own sex.

Yeah - you're a misogynist if you don't believe in female superiority and that men should be seen and not heard.
If today you can take a thing like evolution and make it a crime to teach in the public schools, tomorrow you can make it a crime to teach it in the private schools and next year you can make it a crime to teach it to the hustings or in the church. At the next session you may ban books and the newspapers...
Ignorance and fanaticism are ever busy and need feeding. Always feeding and gloating for more. Today it is the public school teachers; tomorrow the private. The next day the preachers and the lecturers, the magazines, the books, the newspapers. After a while, Your Honor, it is the setting of man against man and creed against creed until with flying banners and beating drums we are marching backward to the glorious ages of the sixteenth centry when bigots lighted fagots to burn the men who dared to bring any intelligence and enlightenment and culture to the human mind. ~Clarence Darrow, at the Scopes Monkey Trial, 1925

Politics is supposed to be the second-oldest profession. I have come to realize that it bears a very close resemblance to the first. ~Ronald Reagan

Philosophy is fucking bullshit.

When a person philosophises so much that they begin to claim that they don't know santa isn't real, then that person is a) detached from what is important - like objective reality, and b) a tedious cunt.
You are currently experiencing a lucky and very brief window of awareness, sandwiched in between two periods of timeless and utter nothingness. So why not make the most of it, and stop wasting your life away trying to convince other people that there is something else? The reality is obvious.
