It's true, Sophie. Xtians are like insects. If you stop stepping on them they'll get out of control.

Why are there so many threads about religion on an atheist forum? It's annoying me when i'd like a religion-free zone. =P
So many christians wanting to prove you're wrong.

The religious are liken to two year old children...they have no manners, no understanding, are demanding of attention and chuck temper-tantrums when told no.... that doesn't stop them from pushing the boundaries as all children do.

If it bothers you too much in your User CP (top right hand corner of site bar) you will find a handy dandy like thing called Buddies and Ignore lists. So the end results are posts that have something to actually say and information that you may be interested in.
Sorry Sophi, you can also click on the persons name and be taken to there profile page. Right hand side under their bio is the Add to Buddies and Add to Ignore buttons.

Up to you darlin.

I don't mind the religious starting threads or jumping into discussion threads designed for arguments. It's when they jump into fun threads about random things and hijack them into endless debates that frustrates me.

My wife was just verbally accosted the other week when she was at the grocery. She was on her cell phone speaking to one of the organizers of our local atheist group. We were hosting a party for other free thinkers and she was going over some of the details. Her end of the conversation included the word "atheist group" which the eavesdropping fundy behind her overheard. He just jumped into the conversation he was only hearing half of, one which didn't involve him at all and wasn't any of his business, and started calling her all sorts of names and telling her that she was the reasons for all the problems in this country. I'm glad I wasn't there. I might have ended up going to jail.

This is why it's difficult to avoid "offending" these people, even if we decided that was important for some reason. Just by the fact that we exist can provoke them to such rage. Just the fact that we have a forum can incite them to enter and preach and condemn.

I don't think most of them can helps themselves, like moths drawn to a flame. It's like their frontal lobes shut down when they hear the word 'atheist.' I find that to keep my sanity, I have to grow a thick skin towards their idiocy, but I probably would have ended up in jail in that situation also.

I'd have gone to jail defending a stranger had I been present.

The beauty of it all is that, should you wish to join a thread you CAN have a look at their post or not. I use it till I have calmed down or the User in question starts making some intelligent conversation.
